Medical school and residency is a lot of what you make of it. If you want to do procedures, you show up when they are available. If you are terrified of them, mysteriously disappear. You will see this trend in both residency and medical school.Certain people are always available for procedures and some people are always occupied elswhere. This is not an accident. Some people are so scared of procedures that they create an excuse to not be around. Similar thing happens for codes. My advice is to make yourself present. Medical school and residency is the time to learn with a protective layer of protection with an attending. It always seems like you should be the smartest but accept that you are not. Learn as much as you can. Go out of your comfort zone. You will thank yourself when you are an attending.
